A vist to Punyagiri and Dharmavaram brings you blessings of Lord Shiva as well as thrills your body and mind with rare scenic beauty. Located amidist picture perfect scenic beauty of hills and waterfalls it is a perfect location for the devotees and tourists. The temple is located on ‘ VIRATA PARVATA’, the hiding place for Pandavas.
Uma Kotilingeswara Swamy temple in Punyagiri 65 kilometers from Vizag is a famous Shiva temple. It is an hour’s drive from Vizag and the surroundings are stunning with waterfalls and hillocks. You have to climb for 20 Minutes to reach the temple.
While going up you can witness waterfalls that refresh your mind. On a Shiva Linga water drops from the falls keep falling as though doing perpetual abisekham to the Lord.
Childless couples pray here to get the blessings of the Lord for children. Devotees believe that if one dies on these hills or ashes or immersed in the water of the stream there, the departed soul will reach Kailasa. Devotees believe that there are a crore of Shiva Lingas here.
Near by 6 Kilometers from Punyagiri, in Dharmavaram there is a famous Shiva temple.
According to temple legend, once upon a time a demon used to kill and devour children. People of Dharmavaram prayed the Lord Uma Kotilingeswara to save their children. Then the Lord took the form of a Sanyasi. The demon agreed to stop the killings if the Lord agrees to stay in Dharmavaram forever. The benevolent Lord agreed and the temple came to be known as Sri Sanyaseeswara temple.
This ancient temple and the beautiful surroundings can turn into a tourist hotspot, if the Government improves the facilities.
